Ajman Police recently reinforced the importance of maintaining lane discipline on the roads to enhance safety and prevent accidents. Motorists are reminded that illegal steering can result in hefty fines and penalties. In a social media announcement, authorities highlighted several factors that contribute to illegal swerving, including unsafe vehicle tires and failure to conduct regular vehicle inspections. These factors can significantly increase the risk of accidents and endanger road users.
Safety Guidelines for Motorists
As part of the campaign, Ajman Police emphasized the following safety guidelines for motorists:

According to Lt. Col. Rashid Humaid bin Hindi from the Ajman Police traffic and patrols department, sudden swerving can result in a fine of Dh1,000 and four black points on the driver's license in the UAE. Such penalties are enforced to deter reckless driving behavior and promote road safety.
Statistics from the Ministry of Interior reveal that sudden swerving was a significant factor in road accidents, contributing to 71% of total fatalities and 61% of injuries on UAE roads in 2023. These alarming figures underscore the critical need for motorists to adhere to lane discipline and avoid sudden maneuvers. In 2023, there were 352 road fatalities across the UAE, marking a slight increase compared to 2022 but a decrease from the figures recorded in 2021. Ajman specifically recorded 11 deaths and 133 injuries due to road accidents last year, highlighting the ongoing challenges in enhancing road safety in the region.
