The United Arab Emirates has categorically denied any allegations of Emirati participation in the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
The UAE denies allegations of involvement in the Sudan conflict
The UAE has strongly denied accusations of its participation in Sudan's current conflict, labeling them "complete fabrications" and "misrepresentations." These rebuttals were made following a letter from Sudan's UN representative on June 10, alleging the discovery of Emirati passports "on the battlefield" and other charges.
Fabricated Claims
The UAE's official statement to the UN Security Council pointed out significant discrepancies in the allegations. It clarified that the images referred to as passports were actually scans or photocopies of passport data pages, some of which were expired or belonged to citizens of other countries.
Regarding the individuals implicated in the accusations, the UAE clarified that these Emiratis had arrived in Sudan well before the conflict began. They had been welcomed by Sudanese authorities for their charitable activities and efforts to foster economic ties between the two nations. The UAE strongly condemned the allegations against them as defamatory and reserved the right to pursue legal action in response.
Furthermore, the UAE categorically denied the possibility of Emirati passports being found "on the battlefield," asserting that the individuals named retained possession of their passports. The claim that phones bearing the Etisalat logo were found was also rebutted, with the UAE explaining that these were outdated commercial models widely distributed in the past, with obsolete logos no longer used by the company.
Allegations of supplying arms and military support to Sudanese factions were vehemently rejected by the UAE as part of what it described as a disinformation campaign orchestrated by the Sudanese Armed Forces. The UAE reaffirmed its historical assistance to Sudan, including the provision of 30 unarmed armored vehicles, which were delivered before the conflict at the request of the Sudanese government to enhance its defense capabilities.
Despite the contentious allegations, the UAE reiterated its unwavering commitment to supporting the people of Sudan during the humanitarian crisis. It highlighted ongoing efforts, such as establishing field hospitals near the Chad-Sudan border to provide critical medical care and pledging substantial humanitarian aid. The UAE stressed the importance of achieving a ceasefire and called upon all parties involved in the conflict to engage in dialogue and negotiate towards establishing a civilian-led government.
The UAE's response to the allegations of involvement in Sudan's conflict underscores its commitment to transparency, humanitarian assistance, and diplomatic resolution. It firmly rejected all accusations as baseless and misleading, emphasizing its support for peace and stability in Sudan through diplomatic channels and humanitarian aid initiatives.
