The Dubai Police have declared that all is ready to go for the ceremonial cannons that will be used to herald the coming of Eid.

The celebration will be both spectacular and open to both locals and guests thanks to the placement of these cannons at seven key spots throughout the emirate.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Tarish Al Amimi, the commander of the cannon team, emphasized the cultural significance of the Eid cannon tradition. He explained that this practice is deeply rooted in the UAE's social heritage and has been a part of the community’s collective memory and consciousness for generations. The firing of the cannons signifies the joyous occasion of Eid, marking the end of Ramadan with Eid Al-Fitr or the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage with Eid Al-Adha.

Al Amimi confirmed that meticulous arrangements have been made to ensure that the tradition of firing the cannons is upheld. This involves detailed planning and coordination to ensure the cannons are safely set up and operated. The preparations include securing the locations, training the personnel, and ensuring that the cannons are in perfect working condition. This comprehensive approach guarantees that the tradition is carried out without any hitches, preserving its historical significance and providing a memorable experience for all who witness it.

Locations for Eid Cannons

The ceremonial cannons will be strategically placed at seven locations across Dubai, each selected for its accessibility and visibility. The designated sites are:

  • Za’abeel Grand Mosque in Za’abeel: A central location that serves as a significant landmark, making it an ideal spot for the Eid cannon.

  • Umm Suqeim: Known for its picturesque setting, this area will provide a scenic backdrop for the cannon firing.

  • Nad Al Hamar: A residential area that will allow many community members to easily partake in the tradition.

  • Al Barsha: A bustling district, ensuring a wide audience for the cannon ceremony.

  • Nad Al Sheba: Another key residential area, making the tradition accessible to more residents.

  • Al Baraha: Positioned in a location that can draw a significant number of spectators.

  • Hatta: An area known for its cultural richness, adding to the significance of the tradition.

The cannons' well-planned positioning guarantees that the custom of celebrating Eid with cannon fire reaches a large audience, enhancing the festive mood and sense of community connected to Eid Al-Adha. Every site that has been selected aims to optimize accessibility and visibility so that a great number of locals and guests may take part in and observe this long-standing event. The locations have been carefully chosen by the Dubai Police to guarantee the preservation of the custom and the widespread and joyous celebration of Eid.

Community Engagement

The announcement and subsequent firing of the Eid cannons are not just about maintaining a tradition; they are also about engaging the community. The sound of the cannon serves as a signal that unites people in celebration, marking a moment of collective joy and festivity. It brings together diverse groups within the emirate, fostering a sense of unity and shared heritage. The Dubai Police play a crucial role in this by not only preserving the tradition but also enhancing the community's experience of Eid through their dedicated efforts.

The Dubai Police's thorough preparations and the strategic placement of the Eid cannons across seven key locations highlight the importance of this tradition in the UAE. By maintaining and honoring this cultural practice, the Dubai Police ensure that the heritage of the Eid cannon is preserved and that the spirit of Eid is celebrated with the same fervor and joy as it has been for generations. This initiative not only keeps the tradition alive but also strengthens the bonds within the community, making Eid a truly special occasion for everyone in Dubai.
