Dubai Shortens Travel Times Through Major Road Improvements

Omar Abbas - | Arab

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed infrastructure upgrades on Streets A11 and A26 in the Al Mizhar area, marking a significant milestone in the city's efforts to alleviate traffic congestion.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority Infrastructure Enhancements

The project entailed widening both Streets A11 and A26 from two to four lanes in each direction, covering a combined distance of 6.8 kilometers. This expansion effectively doubled the road capacity, increasing it from 1,200 to 2,400 vehicles per hour and significantly reducing congestion during peak hours.

These improvements are part of RTA's comprehensive traffic solutions for 2024, aimed at optimizing Dubai's road network to ensure smoother traffic flow and better cater to the needs of the rapidly growing population in the area.

Hussein Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating that they not only enhance safety and visibility for road users but also address the parking needs of local schools and residents. Additionally, the project includes the introduction of a 5.7-kilometer cycling track, promoting eco-friendly mobility options, and contributing to Dubai's goal of becoming a bicycle-friendly city.

Intersection Improvements

The project also focused on improving traffic flow at key intersections, such as the intersection of Street 5 and Algeria Street. By relocating the traffic light to the intersection of Algeria Street and Street 11, the average waiting time has been significantly reduced from 2.1 minutes to just 50 seconds. Furthermore, the introduction of two new roundabouts on Street 26A aims to enhance turning movements, benefiting approximately one million users of the road.

RTA's commitment to enhancing Dubai's road infrastructure extends beyond this project, with ongoing improvements planned for 2024. These initiatives, spanning over 45 locations across the city, seek to further optimize traffic flow and support sustainable growth. By continually upgrading the road network, RTA aims to maintain Dubai's reputation as one of the world's best-connected cities with a world-class road infrastructure.

Dubai's RTA has demonstrated its dedication to improving the city's road infrastructure through strategic enhancements on key thoroughfares. By addressing traffic challenges, enhancing intersections, and promoting eco-friendly mobility options, RTA is paving the way for smoother traffic flow and a more sustainable future for Dubai's residents and businesses.
