Seized item sales in Abu Dhabi

The sales of seized items resulting from judicial rulings enforced by Abu Dhabi courts have reached a substantial total of 14,482,480 dirhams. This figure encompasses proceeds generated from the sale of 101 vehicles and 5 boats, as well as gold jewelry and artifacts.

This achievement marks the period since the establishment of a dedicated committee tasked with executing rulings on the confiscation of vehicles, goods, money, and precious metals, initiated in November 2022.

Establishment of the Permanent Committee

Undersecretary Yousef Saeed Al Abri of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department elaborated on the role of the Permanent Committee for Implementing Confiscation Rulings. Formed under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this committee oversees the enforcement of criminal rulings involving confiscations until their final adjudication. It collaborates closely with pertinent authorities to manage the evaluation and technical appraisal of seized items, essential for the subsequent legal steps leading to their sale.

Al Abri emphasized the committee’s coordination efforts with various stakeholders to ensure the efficient assessment and preparation of confiscated items for auction. This process adheres strictly to established regulations, facilitating the electronic auctioning of items through the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department’s smart application. This platform not only expedites bidding processes but also enables comprehensive viewing of auction items, offering innovative remote bidding options to streamline procedures for both bidders and authorities alike.

Furthermore, Al Abri underscored the committee’s commitment to eliminating logistical hurdles associated with the delivery and sale of confiscated vehicles, advocating for the removal of impediments in collaboration with relevant institutions. This concerted effort aims to enhance operational efficiency and transparency throughout the confiscation and auctioning processes, thereby ensuring compliance with the legal frameworks governing such transactions.

The proactive measures undertaken by the Permanent Committee for Implementing Confiscation Rulings reflect Abu Dhabi’s commitment to upholding judicial integrity and efficiency. By leveraging technology and fostering inter-agency cooperation, the committee not only safeguards the interests of justice but also maximizes the financial returns derived from confiscated assets for the benefit of the community. This approach underscores Abu Dhabi’s dedication to maintaining a robust and accountable legal system that effectively addresses criminal proceedings involving asset confiscation.
